A well crafted story can help me better understand the past and powerfully shape the future. The best stories for capacity building are the ones that I am often least excited about telling. Embarrassing stories. Tragic stories. Sad stories. The most capacity is gained when I tell stories about times that I have not accomplished what I set out to accomplish. Stories about times that I've failed are not ones that I feel thrilled to tell and these are the stories that I must tell. When I tell these stories right, that is, from a perspective that serves me, I can inspire myself to the highest heights; I can turn tragedy into triumph and disadvantage into opportunity. When I tell these stories wrong, the past becomes a constant inhibitor of future greatness. The weight of a poorly told story can sit on you like a rock. Told differently, that rock can be come a hill that you stand on in order to reach your greatness. It's time to learn Storytelling From the Inside Out.
