This is your chance to join a powerful group of black women committed to caring for themselves, their families, and their communities; in that order. Register for this 1 day course now! Join us on Sunday May 5 at 9AM ET 1 Session, $25 I am siting in a virtual circle of Afrikan women. We are all dressed in white. Some of us have adorned ourselves with grand jewelry and make up. Others, like me, wear simple jewelry and bare faces. Queen Afua invites us to close our eyes. She instructs us to imagine ourselves walking outside in ill fitting pants, an old shirt that, though clean, is stained, and a pair of sneakers that have seen better days. "How do you feel?" she asks. Do you feel confident? Powerful? Next we change our imagined wardrobes to a tiny miniskirt, cleavage-revealing top and heals high enough to reach the sky. Once again she asked us to check in on our feelings. Do you feel capable? Creative ? Do you like the type of attention that you are getting as you walk down the sidewalk? Do you admire those who are giving you that attention? For our final wardrobe change, Queen Afua asked us to imagine ourselves in a beautiful dress made from the finest Afrikan fabric. I could feel my back straighten even as I sat in my chair. A smile grew on my face as I placed the imaginary bangles on my arms and affixed large earrings to my ears. "How do you feel?" she asked for the final time. I felt glorious! I was also terrified.
